Household Efficient Lighting Project

Energy Mad implemented thirty-two regional and national Household Efficient Lighting Projects (HELP) over the period spanning 09/2004 – 09/2007. The projects have created the following impressive statistics:

  • Distribution of 3.5 million Ecobulbs to 50% of New Zealand homes

  • The creation of $331 million in electricity savings for New Zealand households over the ten year lifetime of the Ecobulbs

  • The reduction of over one million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the ten year lifetime of the Ecobulbs

The monitoring and reporting tasks were completed by Energy Mad, in accordance with Kyoto Protocol Clean Development Mechanism Approved Methodology AM0046, ‘Distribution of efficient light bulbs to households’. The emission reductions have been verified by United Nations designated operational entity, Det Norske Veritas.

The outcomes achieved by the New Zealand HELP projects are an illustration of what can be achieved with collective action. Large numbers of concerned residents have taken on the challenge of climate change and installed Ecobulbs in their homes.

The resultant reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide will make a meaningful contribution in the fight to reduce global warming.
