Our Vision
By late 2007, Energy Mad had already achieved this aim! Consequently, Energy Mad now aims to “lessen climate change through economical energy savings!”. This will be achieved through their Ecobulb projects, and also through new energy saving space and water heating initiatives.
Our History
Energy Mad was formed in 2004 by Tom Mackenzie and Chris Mardon with an aim to get five Energy Saving Ecobulbs in 50% of the homes in New Zealand and “save all the electricity used by Christchurch homes!”. Teaming up with Line Trust South Canterbury and Foodstuffs supermarket stores, they implemented the world leading South Canterbury “Ecobulb project” in late 2004. In six short weeks, 65% of South Canterbury homes each brought their five Ecobulbs. Since then, Energy Mad has implemented Ecobulb projects throughout New Zealand. By late 2007, 32 Ecobulb projects had been completed. These have involved the Electricity Commission, Power and Consumer Trusts, the largest electricity retail and distribution companies in New Zealand, Foodstuffs (the largest supermarket chain in New Zealand) and Shell New Zealand. Energy Mad have also branched out into other energy saving initiatives. This includes the recently completed 500 heat pump “Ecoheater” pilot project in South Canterbury. In 2007 Energy Mad also be launched their world first “EcoSmartHome” project.
