Energy Mad Achievements

In 2004, Energy Mad developed the ultra high performance, ultra bright, ultra compact, high power factor Ecobulb®.  (Visit the Ecobulb® website)

Teaming up with Line Trust South Canterbury and Foodstuffs supermarket stores, Energy Mad first implemented the remarkably successful South Canterbury “Ecobulb® project” in late 2004. In six short weeks, 65% of South Canterbury homes each brought their five Ecobulbs® for $10 from Foodstuffs supermarket stores.

During this project, Energy Mad also developed and implemented their innovative methodology to measure the resulting electricity savings, peak electricity network load reduction and carbon dioxide emission reductions.

Since the South Canterbury Ecobulb® project, Energy Mad has implemented Ecobulb® projects throughout New Zealand. By late 2007, 32 Ecobulb® projects will have been completed. These have involved the Electricity Commission, Power and Consumer Trusts, the largest electricity retail and distribution companies in New Zealand, Foodstuffs (the largest supermarket chain in New Zealand) and Shell New Zealand.

These projects will yield the following remarkable results:

bullet

3.5 million Ecobulbs® installed in New Zealand homes

bullet

50% of New Zealand homes having Ecobulbs® installed

bullet

Consumer electricity savings equal to $350 million electricity over the life of the Ecobulbs®.

bullet

Carbon dioxide emission reductions of 1.06 million tonnes over the life of the Ecobulbs®. This is equivalent to removing all the cars off the road for one year in a city of 400,000 people.

bullet

An electricity network load reduction of 168MW.

Energy Mad recently commenced selling Ecobulbs® through Woolworths Australia supermarket stores (the largest supermarket chain in Australia).

Energy Mad have also recently supplied their first United States Ecobulb® order for an “Ecospiral”  (Visit the Ecospiral website)  project with a United States electricity utility.

The next new Energy Mad energy saving initiative commenced in South Canterbury in late 2006. Funded by Line Trust South Canterbury and Environment Canterbury, over 500 heat pumps were installed in the “Ecoheater” project.  (Visit the Ecoheater website

Later on this year, Energy Mad will also be launching their world first “Ecosmarthome” project.
